About
Where one path ends, another begins.
Recipemuseum.com was born with the passing of my grandmother and best friend, Leatrice Shepherd. Upon her passing I was left in charge of the task of distributing her estate. While searching for a handful of special recipes in her kitchen I was shocked to find my grandmother’s massive collection of recipes.
There were literally thousands of recipes. Some were clipped from the newspaper or from the side of food packaging. Many were hand written. Some were given to her by friends and included personal notes. Some looked newer, however most were yellowed with age. All of these recipes were diligently filed away in manilla envelopes and organized with the care that most people would only pay to important documents.
At first I had no idea what to do with these recipes. I felt a sense of attachment, mainly because I grew up eating my grandmother’s cooking. I thought that some of the recipes were practically artifacts or family heirlooms – things you can’t learn from any book. Quickly I got the idea for Recipemuseum.com and got to work.
Many people may scoff at the idea of putting their family recipes online. This is understandable – to each their own. However, I think my grandmother would have been delighted to know that her collection was posted online where anyone could access and benefit from her lifetime of recipe collecting.
I would also like to invite anyone who visits this site to submit their recipes. I want this site to become a resource for special and unique recipes. Please visit the submit page and read the specifications to have your recipe featured on Recipemuseum.com.
